Using the serial port for MIDI is nothing but trouble.
The best way to connect MIDI devices to a computer is a USB interface. You can buy one for only $39.
It's easy to install and works with Windows 98SE and XP even MAC.
I would recommend the Midisport UNO for a single MIDI module.
For multiple MIDI devices you can get multiport interfaces.

: I can't get the drivers to load in windows 98SE and also would like to know how to get it to be compatible with XP.
