provides users the ability to burn audio CDs directly from the VS-880, VS-880EX
or VS-1680. The software update to allow CD burning is included on disk for the
VS-880 and is already built into the VS-880EX and VS-1680. Users can now record,

The included CD-R drive also functions as a CD ROM player and writer for
Macintosh and IBM compatible computers.
Features include:
  • Burn audio CDs directly from VS-Series products
  • CD archiving of song data provides an inexpensive backup medium
  • Multiple Session 2x write/6x read CD-R/W drive
  • Adaptec ToastTM CD-R software for Macintosh
  • Adaptec EasyTM CD Pro CD-R software for PC platforms
  • Includes 2 Blank CD-R discs, SCSI cable and terminator
  • Includes VS-880 Ver. 3.1 CD Software in Mac and PC formats
  • Software for CD burning on VS-880EX/VS-1680 already built-in
  • Compatible with VS-880, VS-880EX and VS-1680

Install the Update (VS-880 Users Only)
The software for the VS-880 is included on two floppy disks - SU-22P (PC) and SU-23M (MAC). You will need a MIDI sequencer (software or hardware) that can load DOS or Macintosh Standard MIDI Files. Use the following procedure:
  1. Connect the MIDI OUT of the sequencer to the MIDI IN of the VS-880.
  2. Hold CH EDIT button 7 and STATUS button 7 while powering on the VS-880 to display "System Update?"
  3. Press YES to display "Waiting MIDI-EX."
  4. Load the Standard MIDI Files into your sequencer.
  5. Play all Standard MIDI Files: "VS-880-1.mid" through "VS-880-8.mid" in sequential order.
  6. After all SMFs have been played, the message "Update SysPRG?" will be displayed. Press YES.
  7. The message "Please Reboot OK" will be displayed. The system software of the VS-880 has now been updated.
  8. Restart the VS-880 and the new system version will be displayed as the unit is booting up.
Setup
Use the following procedure to setup a VS-Series product to burn a CD:
  1. With all equipment turned off, connect the SCSI port of the CD-R drive to the SCSI port of the VS product.
  2. Attach the terminator to the remaining SCSI port on the CD-R. If you are using multiple SCSI devices, connect them to the CD-R drive and terminate the last device in the chain.
  3. Set the ID numbers of each SCSI device so that they do not conflict (VS products default to SCSI ID #7).
  4. Turn on the power in the following order: CD-R drive, VS product, audio equipment.
    * All trademarks are the property of their respective owners.
Mix Down
The VS-CDR CD recording system allows you to designate two source tracks to provide the audio for your CD. Your song must be mixed down to 2 tracks before you create your CD. This procedure will vary for the VS-880, VS-880EX and VS-1680. Use the following procedure to create a mix down of Tracks 1-6 on Tracks 7 and 8 on the VS-880EX:
  1. Press the FADER/EDIT button to select Track (green).
  2. Press the SELECT/CH EDIT button for Channel #7.
  3. Hold SHIFT and press the SELECT/CH EDIT button for Channel #6. Press the RIGHT PARAMETER button to display "Channel Link=."
  4. Use the TIME/VALUE dial to select "Channel Link=On."
  5. Press the PLAY/DISPLAY button.
  6. Hold the STATUS 7 button and press the SELECT/CH EDIT buttons for Tracks 1-6 so they are flashing.
  7. Press the FADER/EDIT button to select FX RTN (red).
  8. Hold the STATUS 7 button and press the SELECT/CH EDIT buttons for FX 1 RTN and FX 2 RTN.
  9. Set the Track Status buttons for Tracks 1-6 to Play (green) and Tracks 7/8 to Record Standby (flashing red).
  10. Use the faders to adjust the levels of tracks 1-6.
  11. Press REC followed by PLAY to record your mix to Tracks 7 and 8. Press STOP when the song is finished.

NOTE: When creating a CD, the song length is set by the length of the mix down tracks (7-8). You may need to cut data on your tracks to avoid empty space.

Writing a CD
There are two ways to create an audio CD with the VS-Series CD system: multiple session and disc-at-once. Use the following procedure to use the disc-at-once method to create an finished audio CD with the VS-880EX:

NOTE: The disk space required will appear under the "Measure Beat" portion of the display. Make sure that this number is smaller than the number under "SYNC MODE SCENE" (free hard drive space) and "REMAINING TIME" (free CD-R disc space).

  7. Press PARAMETER RIGHT (44) so that "SNG CD-R Write Sure?" is displayed.
  8. Press YES/ENTER to display "SNG CD Track No. OK?"
