ROLAND VK-77 TURBO FACTS
The Roland VK-77 Combo Organ is a full-featured, dual-manual version of the
ground breaking VK-7. Utilizing Rolandıs acclaimed Virtual Tone Wheel modeling
technology, the VK-77 gives organists a compact, lightweight version of classic
rock and jazz organs, plus much more.
Features include:
- Dual 61-key manuals with realistic organ touch
- Independent harmonic bar control of upper and lower manuals, pedal, and orchestral voices
- Full keyboard polyphony with 91 voices in constant, independent oscillation
- Sophisticated rotary speaker and tube amp emulation created using Roland's COSM technology

Initializing
- Use the following procedure to restore the factory settings:
- Press EDIT so it is lit.
- Press the RIGHT CURSOR (4) button to display "UTILITY."
- Press ENTER.
- Use the UP/DOWN CURSOR (v) buttons to display "Factory Reset."
- Press WRITE.
- Press ENTER.
- Press EDIT to return to the previous display.
Playing the Demo Songs
Use the following procedure to play the VK-77 demo songs:
- Hold ENTER and press the DOWN CURSOR (u) button.
- Use the + / - buttons to select the desired song.
NOTE: To hear all demo songs consecutively, press the RIGHT CURSOR (4) button to display "Chain Play."
- Press ENTER to start playback.
- Press EXIT to stop playback.
- Press EXIT again to return to the previous display.
Selecting Registrations (Preset Sounds)
The VK-77 allows you to store your favorite organ, orchestral and effect settings in registration memories. Registrations are organized into two groups: A and B. Each group contains eight banks, with eight registrations in each bank. Any preset registration memory can be overwritten with your own custom settings. The registration selection buttons are located in between the upper and lower manuals. Use the following procedure to select registrations:
- Press REGISTRATION LOCK so it is not lit.
- Press the A/B button to select the desired group. When group B is selected, the A/B button will light.
- Press the BANK button so the registration buttons (1-8) start blinking.
- Press a REGISTRATION button (1-8) to select the desired bank.
- Press a REGISTRATION button (1-8) to select a registration from that bank.
- Play the keyboard to hear the sounds used by that registration.
Assigning an Orchestral Voice to the Lower Manual
The VK-77 includes 64 orchestral voices that can be used as solo instruments or layered with the organ sounds. These voices are divided into eight groups, each of which contains eight variation voices. Use the following procedure to assign an orchestral voice to the lower manual:
- Select registration A11 (as previously described).
- Press ORGAN LOWER (under KEYBOARD ASSIGN) so it is not lit.
- Press ORCH LOWER (under KEYBOARD ASSIGN) so it is lit.
- Press LOWER (under PART SELECT) so it is lit.
- Press the desired Sound Group button (under ORCHESTRAL VOICES).
- Use the UP/DOWN VARIATION (v) buttons to select a variation sound.
- Press the blinking Sound Group button to finalize your selection.
- Use the Orch harmonic bar to adjust the volume of the selected voice as desired.
Playing the Pedal Part on the Lower Manual
Even if the PK-7 MIDI Foot Controller is not connected to the VK-77, you can still play the pedal part on the lower manual. The "Pedal To Lower" function splits the lower manual, assigning the pedal part to the lower half of the keyboard. Use the following procedure to enable this function:
- Press ORGAN - PEDAL (under KEYBOARD ASSIGN) so it is lit.
- Press PEDAL TO LOWER so it is lit.
- Use the PEDAL harmonic bars to adjust the timbre of the pedal part.
Use the following procedure to set the split point:
- Press EDIT.
- Use the LEFT/RIGHT CURSOR (34) buttons to display "REGIST BASIC."
- Use the UP/DOWN CURSOR (v) buttons to display "LowerSplitPoint."
- Use the + / - buttons to select the desired split point.
- Press EDIT to return to the previous display.
Connecting the PK-7 Pedalboard
The optional PK-7 is a 20 note MIDI pedalboard with a detachable expression pedal. Combining a PK-7 with the VK-77 allows you to emulate a complete Hammond B3 setup. Use the following procedure to set up the PK-7 for use with the VK-77:
- Using the cable provided with the PK-7, connect the PK OUT jack on the PK-7 to the PK IN jack on the VK-77.
- Set the SELECT switch on the rear panel of the VK-77 to "PK IN."
- Press PEDAL TO LOWER so it is not lit.
- Press ORGAN - PEDAL (under KEYBOARD ASSIGN) so it is lit.
- Use the PK-7ıs expression pedal to adjust the overall volume of the organ.
- Press the pedals to hear the pedal part.
- Use the PEDAL harmonic bars to adjust the timbre of the pedal part.
- Use the left switch on the expression pedal to change the speed of the rotary speaker effect.
- Use the right switch on the expression pedal to engage/disengage the Wheel Brake.
