ROLAND EM-2000 TURBO FACTS
The Roland EM-2000 Creative Keyboard is the flagship of the E-Series Intelligent Arranger keyboards.
It offers new features combined with over 400 onboard Styles and a huge library of Standard MIDI Files.

Features include:

  • 61-note, velocity sensitive keyboard with aftertouch
  • 1,161 sounds and 43 drum kits
  • New, large 240x64 backlit display with selectable Easy/Expert modes and adjustable viewing angle
  • 64-voice polyphony and 32-part multitimbral
  • New D-Beam™ light-sensing controller
  • Style Database, Disk Style Link, User Style Composer, and SMF to Style Converter
  • Chorus, reverb, EQ and 89 onboard digital effects
  • Built-in Zip drive, floppy drive and SCSI port


Mounting the ZIP Disk and Playing Demo Songs
The EM-2000 ZIP disk contains 300 song files. Use the following procedure to mount a ZIP disk and play a song:
  1. Insert the supplied ZIP disk into the ZIP drive.
  2. Turn the EM-2000 on.
  3. Press DISK LIST.
  4. Turn the BASS BANK [LIST] knob to select a song.
  5. Press UPPER 2 [RECALL] under the display.
  6. Press PLAY/STOP to begin playback.
Selecting User Programs
The EM-2000 has 192 User Program memories. Use the following procedure to select a User Program:
  1. If necessary, press GM/GS MODE so it is not lit.
  2. Press SELECT under TONE/USER PROGRAM so that USER PROGRAM is lit.
  3. Press GROUP under TONE/ USER PROGRAM to select a user program group (A through C.)
  4. Use TONE/ USER PROGRAM [1] - [8] to select a user program bank.
  5. Use TONE/ USER PROGRAM [1] - [8] to select a user program.
Selecting Tones
The EM-2000 has 1,161 tones and 43 drum kits. Use the following procedure to select a Tone:
  1. If necessary, press GM/GS MODE so it is not lit.
  2. Press SELECT under TONE/USER PROGRAM so Tone is lit.
  3. Press GROUP under TONE/ USER PROGRAM to select a Tone group (A through E.)
  4. Use TONE/ USER PROGRAM [1] - [8] to select a Tone bank.
  5. Use TONE/ USER PROGRAM [1] - [8] to select a Tone.
  6. Press VARIATION ^ / v to select alternate Tones.
Selecting Music Styles
The EM-2000 has 128 preset styles, 16 Custom Styles and 111 Disk Link styles. Use the following procedure to select a Style:
  1. If necessary, press GM/GS MODE so it is not lit.
  2. Press SYNCHRO so START is lit.
  3. Press GROUP under MUSIC STYLE/MIDI SET to select a Music Style group (A through E).
  4. Use MUSIC STYLE/ MIDI SET [1] - [8] to select a Music Style bank.
  5. Use MUSIC STYLE/ MIDI SET [1] - [8] to select a Music Style.
  6. Play a chord to the left side of middle C on the keyboard to begin playing the selected Style.
  7. Press START/STOP to stop Style playback.
Programming the D-Beam
The EM-2000 features the exclusive D-Beam” controller which can be used to control Tones and arranger parts. Use the following procedure to program the D-Beam:
  1. Press and hold the D BEAM ON button to display the D BEAM ASSIGN menu.
  2. Turn the ACCOMP GROUP knob to select "Arr Start/Stop."
  3. Place your hand over the D-Beam to start the arranger.
  4. Place your hand over the D-Beam again to stop the arranger.
Note: Some D-Beam settings will affect only the Tone and some will affect the whole Music Style.

Recording with the 16-Track Sequencer
The built-in 16-Track Sequencer can record and edit Standard MIDI Files. Use the following procedure to record a song:

  1. Press SONG TOOLS.
  2. Press DRUMS PART [16 TRACKS SEQUENCER].
  3. Press F3 [Init] to initialize the sequencer.
  4. Press UPPER 1 [PROCEED].
  5. Turn the DRUMS PART knob to select a time signature.
  6. Use the BASS BANK knob to select a tempo.
  7. Press UPPER 2 [EXECUTE].
  8. Press REC under RECORDER.
  9. Press PLAY/STOP under RECORDER.
  10. After the 4 beat count-in, begin playing.
  11. Press PLAY/STOP when finished.
  12. Press PLAY/STOP again to begin playback.
