Roland AR-2000 Quick Application Guide

I. Definitions

PHRASE - The smallest recorded unit of sound. A single, continuous message. A single phrase could be:

Audio
A Standard Midi File (SMF)
A Pattern of other phrases

PATTERN - One single phrase which is set up to be a pattern or sequence of other phrases. The Pattern Phrase in itself does not contain any audio, it simply provides pointers to other phrases, with information on what order to play them. Upon starting a Pattern, the AR-2000 or 100 will play through the entire sequence without stopping.

PROGRAM PLAY - A single program is a list of up to 100 phrases. In Program Play, once a program is started, the first phrase will play and then stop. Upon a contact closure at the START pin, the next Phrase of that program will play. When it is done playing, it will stop. This will continue until all phrases (up to 100) have been played. At any time, a closure to the EXCH pin will advance to the next Program. Up to 5 Programs can be set up per card. The Program information stays as a part of the card information.

Direct Play - With Direct Play, dry contacts on the barrier strip will fire off up to 16 discrete phrases. You can program which pin fires which phrase. For example, you can program the AR-2000 so a closure at pin 14 starts phrase number 182.
