The serial port is a very delicate thing on PCs with many issues.
You have to turn the computer off before connecting a serial cable or you may end up with a problem only a new motherboard can fix.

: This is wierd, and new behavior. I used to connect my QS 6.1 to PC by serial cable (COM 1), using a Yamaha serial driver that I think I discovered on this forum. For the last few months Windows shuts down when this cable is connected. Not even connected to the synth, but into the PC serial port. Tried new cable. Uninstalled Yamaha driver, tried the Roland serial port driver...reinstalled the COM 1 drivers. Nada...
: Good news is I can do most of what I want by Midi cable, except for Soundbridge and card writing.
: Anyone ever seen this behavior?

    : Thanks, gunga
